Join us on this guided tour through the historical city of Alberobello and discover the famed UNESCO trulli of the Apulian region. We will also visit a local “Masseria” and many sample tastings of the local produces.
We will take you through the historical Alberobello to discover the history and the region’s folklore traditions. Your guide will also show you the UNESCO priced trulli and learn how they were constructed. We will also visit the only trullo church Sant’Antonio and head towards the bell tower for a breath-taking panoramic view. We will end our tour at a visit to a local farmhouse to experience a traditional farm activities and sampling their fresh local produces.
Alberobello was a forestry area covered with beautiful ancient oaks and beech trees. Alberobello derived its name from these beautiful trees. Due to the fertile soil, it was soon used for agricultural activities. During the 14th century, people began to build a temporary settlement.
Our guide will tell the history and folklore traditions of Alberobello and how this commune came about. As we tour along the narrow passages, we will also visit the only trullo form church, Sant’Antonio. From the bell tower, we will cherish and admire the breath-taking panoramic view of the Apulian region and the Adriatic Sea.
Trulli was first thought to have existed during the prehistoric time. However, the oldest form of trullo is found in Alberobello , dating back to the 14th century. The white-washed limestone houses with cone-shaped roof are amongst the ancient dwellings that still survive to this day.
Trulli was constructed as a temporary shelter because of a tax feud between the governors. Now, it is used as permanent residents even some are converted to hotel usage. Our expert guide will show you the construction methods of a trullo to show you how it was during the Middle Ages.
After our trullo tour, we will head towards a local Masseria, a local farmhouse to eXPerience traditional farm activities such as witnessing how the ear-shaped pasta, orecchiette are produced, cheese making, milking, fruit picking and other farming activities.
