Top 10 romantic places to visit in Italy for your honeymoon

1. Lake Como - Milan

Lake Como is the perfect romantic setting in Italy: think quaint hilltop villages, magnificent sunsets, and boat rides with the one you love. Although the largest settlement on the lake is the city of Como, it feels more like a little village, where you can stroll through the cobbled streets with a gelato or settle into a traditional trattoria for a delicious meal.

If you’re looking to pack your honeymoon with some adventure, take the funicular up to Brunate, where you can watch a stunning sunset over the lake. It’s little wonder Lake Como is so popular with many famous faces.

You can decide either to stay in some of the luxurious Hotels on the Lake, or to reach Como from Milan for a day excursion. Check our private cruise on the Lake Como with pic-nic on board. Movie lovers should not miss the tour of Como's movies locations (i.e. Star Wars, Casino Royale).

2. Val d'Orcia, Tuscany

There’s enough romance in Val d’Orcia to dedicate a whole article to it – quintessential Tuscany within easy reach of UNESCO World Heritage city of Siena, and little villages such as Montepulciano, Pienza, and Montalcino.

These names may sound familiar because they’re where some of Italy’s finest wines are produced, thanks to the Sangiovese grape being grown here. Have a refined glass of Brunello with a platter of fine cheese and cure meats, as you take in the beautiful countryside, home to cypress trees and dotted with farmhouses as old as time itself.

Stroll around the panoramic green (or yellow, depending on the season) hills with cypresses famous all over the world. You will not find easily again a such romantic set for your honeymoon pictures!
Have a look at our exclusive private tour of Val d'Orcia, with lunch and wine tastings!

3. Polignano a Mare - Apulia

Your idea of romance is eating in a candlelit cave to the sound of the waves lapping against the rocks below? That’s going to be tricky to find. Unless you’re in Polignano a Mare, at the top of Italy’s ‘heel’. The restaurant "Grotta Palazzese" is considered one of the most beautiful in the world and a perfect honeymoon should include a dinner here!

The town, which overlooks the sea is also home to a beautiful Romanesque church housed inside an abbey, with a bell tower which you can ascend to see beautiful views of the Adriatic Coast. Climbing all those stairs will make you want to relax, and there’s no better place to do it than on the white pebble beach of Lama Monachile.

4. Verona

Verona, the home of one of the most famous love stories of all time, Romeo and Juliet. However, Verona has more to offer than just being the setting of this play! Visit the local market at the Piazza delle Erbe or take in the opera at one of the best-preserved amphitheatres in the world at Piazza Bra.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a honeymoon without visiting the house of Juliet and the balcony where she gazed out at the stars as Romeo serenaded her. Make sure you touch the breast of her golden statue – it’s said to bring you luck in love.
Visit the city with our private walking tour of the centre of Verona or choose a peculiar eXperience to remember: the cooking class to earn how to make gelato!

4. Verona

5. Taormina, Sicily

If you go for a honeymoon exploring the beautiful Sicily, a mandatory stop will be Taormina. Packed with restaurants perched on a hilltop with views of the Giardini de Naxos, Mount Etna, and the Mediterranean Sea, this charming Sicilian town oozes romance. It offers a great mix of history and nature too, with hiking trails to Europe’s most active volcano, and it’s only a stone’s throw from Isola Bella, where you can enjoy the nature reserve.

Back in the town, stroll around the Greek amphitheatre before heading down to the coves where you’ll find sandy beaches to lie on and listen to the waves lapping against the shore.
Discover Taormina and Isola bella by boat with our special tour!

5. Taormina, Sicily

6. Sirmione, Lake Garda

This spa town, set on a peninsula reaching into the depths of the stunningly beautiful Lake Garda, must be entered through the Rocca Scaligera castle, which stands over perfectly turquoise water.

There are a number of spa hotels to choose from in the town, giving magnificent views of the lake from their balconies. Head to their restaurants on terraces where you can watch boats bobbing on the lake as the sun goes down. Sirmione truly makes for an unforgettable spot to spend your post-wedding holiday.
If you are staying in Milan, you can visit Sirmione with our day tour to Sirmione and Garda Lake with a minicruise.

6. Sirmione, Lake Garda

7. Portovenere

Although not as well-known as some of the other locations on this list, that’s no reason to discount Portovenere from your honeymoon shortlist. The town, a pearl of Liguria region, is known as the ‘City of Poets,’ and has inspired a number of artists too.

Often mistakenly grouped with Cinque Terre, Portovenere is perched on the side of the cliff with fantastic views of the Ligurian Sea but without the crowds of its more famous neighbours. For a real treat (it’s your honeymoon, remember), head over to the island of Palmaria for dinner in the perfect spot, after you’ve been picked up from the mainland in one of the island’s boats.
If you are arriving in La Spezia Port, check our private tour to Portovenere and hiking on Palmaria island!

8. Rome

The eternal city says romance just as much as it does history, and by night there’s nowhere prettier to take a stroll with your other half. Make a wish in the Trevi fountain, wander through the cobbled streets of Trastevere, or get a table for two at one of the capital’s many sublime restaurants.

In the daytime, take an alternative Vatican through the secret keyhole on the Aventine Hill, or relax in Piazza Navona with a gelato. The secrets of Rome will delight and enchant you and leave you wanting to come back long after your honeymoon.

9. Capri

There’s nowhere on the Amalfi coast or Southern Italy island that couldn’t be considered romantic, but Capri really is the jewel in the crown. Get away from the port where you’ll arrive into from Naples and explore the island’s natural beauty by taking a boat trip past the blue cave and among the island’s stunning limestone rock formations.

Alternatively, take the Monte Solaro chairlift from Anacapri, perhaps at sunset, to get the most beautiful (and, again...romantic) view on the island!
If you are staying in the Amalfi Coast, take the chance to have  a luxorious experience with the private minicruise tour from Positano to Capri.

10. Venice

No list of romantic destinations in the world would be complete without Venice. Take a romantic gondola ride with a prosecco tasting through the calm and romantic backwaters canals of the town, as the song of the gondolier mixes with the gentle lapping of the water against the sides of your boat.

Avoid the main tourist spots of the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s square and walk hand-in-hand with your loved one along the less crowded Giudecca canal or take a boat ride over to San Giorgio and admire the city from afar at the top of the island’s bell tower.
Try also our gondola ride with a delicious dinner for two.
