Take the scenic route to Vesuvius from Sorrento, meandering along the Sorrentine Coast past unique lava rocks and ash as black as night.
Depart from Sorrento and travel via bus to the Vesuvius National Park. Once arrived there, buy the ticket to access to the park (please note that tickets are NOT included in this tour). Then you will start trip by bus up the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, and then hiking to the rim of the volcano's crater on this one-of-a-kind adventure. Take in unparalleled views of the picturesque Bay of Naples and beyond, then descend to the charming winery at the base of the Vesuvius, where you'll have light lunch and a wine tasting.
Climb Mount Vesuvius in an efficient and exhilarating way. Once we've almost reach the top, stand at the edge of this famous volcano's gaping crater. Peer down into the monstrous mountain itself, acknowledging the terrific natural forces that once sprung from this crater and covered the lives of hundreds of people below.
Alternatively, gaze out into the distance and be rewarded with mind-blowing views. From here, you can see the entire Gulf of Naples and scan the picturesque Sorrento Peninsula. Staring out over the Tyrrhenian Sea, you'll also be able to spot the famous islands of Capri and Ischia, twinkling like small gems in the vast blue expanse.
After your exciting climb, head down to the winery at the foot of the mountain. Here, in the shadow of the great Vesuvius, you will start the second part of yor tour. You will sit down to relax and sample the best wine and signature of the winery, the Lacryma Christi. Taste the original flavors produced by the mineral-rich volcanic soil. You will also be served a light lunch, a pick-and -mix of salamis, cheeses, ham, bruschetta made with home-grown tomatoes and extra-virgin olive oil.
Then, head back to Sorrento with a stomach full of food and a camera full of pictures, savoring the fact that you stood atop the imposing Vesuvius.
