Slow Food Tour of Tuscany and Umbria from Rome, discover their food and wines

Day 1: Arrival in Rome

Arrive at the hotel in Rome on your own. Here, you will meet our tour escort - who will give you more information about this tour from Rome to Umbria and Tuscany - and have dinner in typical restaurant. Transfer back to the hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Montepulciano - Pienza

Depart in the morning for a tour of Montepulciano. The charming medieval town stands on a hill, offering one of the best preserved medieval architecture. You will visit the Enoteca Contucci winery to sample their local wines, followed by a tour of the town. Lunch in the traditional Osteria dell’Acquacheta, where you can relax in their rustic atmosphere. Then, you will visit Pienza, famous for the Pecorino Cheese and you will visit the Pianporcino Farm to learn more about the craft traditions.

Day 3: Castellina in Chianti - Greve in Chianti

You will explore the hills of Chianti region along the ancient Via Chiantigena that connects Florence to Siena. Admiring the landscapes, you will stop in the small Castellina in Chianti where you will learn more about the process of drying aromatic herbs picked from the hills around, followed by a traditional lunch at the Osteria Mangiando Mangiando. After lunch, a short tour of Greve in Chianti and visit a typical cheese farm to sample delicious baby goat cheese and fresh ricotta.

Day 4: Florence

You will spend the day in one of the most beautiful cities in Italy: Florence. You will explore the rich historic center of the city, visiting its world-famous major attractions, including the Duomo, the Baptistry, Piazza della Signoria and the Giotto’s Bell Tower, followed by a free afternoon to explore the city on your own. The slow food tour of Florence will continue with dinner at the traditional Osteria Tripperia Il Magazzino, followed by transfer to hotel and overnight stay.

Day 5: San Gimignano - Siena

The escorted tour continues with a morning departure towards San Gimignano, one of the most fascinating towns in Tuscany. Once holding over 70 tall towes that made it look like sort of "medieval New York", San Gimignano still preserves 14 of its towers and many other architectural marvels. The tour of San Gimignano will reveal its true beauty and rich heritage. Learn more about the production of extra virgin olive oil visiting the family farm Il Castagnolino, before we finally head towards Siena. Here, with a guided tour you will discover its beautiful architecture and the most important landmarks. We then sample the traditional desserts of Siena.

Day 6: Montalcino

Start this special day with a morning departure to Montalcino, where you will taste the world-famous Brunello di Montalcino is produced from the vineyards that grow around Montalcino. You will discover the charming town, while learning more about its traditions and production. The slow food tour continues with a visit to Mastio della Rocca, home to the Enoteca La Fortezza, where you will have to opportunity to sample the amazing local wines and buy some fresh local products. We then return for an exceptional cooking class in Florence, where you learn about the gastronomy of Tuscany. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 7: Orvieto - Todi

The slow food experience continues with a visit of two medieval towns that still preserve their authentic charm and splendid monuments. With a tour of Orvieto you will visit the stunning landscapes surrounding the rock-perched town. Lunch in Orvieto at the Adriano Pastry Shop where you can sample the local delicacies. The day also includes a tour of Todi, a small medieval town rich in handicrafts shops. Transfer to the enchanting Hotel Alla Posta dei Donini in San Martino in Campo, close to Perugia.

Day 8: Assisi - Perugia

Depart in the morning to visit Assisi and its attractions, such as the complex of the Basilica of Saint Francis. You will also have free time to explore the site on your own. Marvel at the architectural and religious wonders of Assisi. After the transfer to Perugia, we continue with a tour of the city and a visit to the Perugina Chocolate Museum where you can taste the delicious BaciPerugina chocolate. Then, after some free time and a stop at a local pastry shop, we continue with a traditional dinner at the Osteria La Lumera.

Day 9: Montefalco - Rome

The day will start with a tour of Montefalco, small town located atop a hill, which offers beautiful panoramic views. You will visit the Cantine di Antonelli to sample the Sagrantino wine, followed by a visit of the olive groves that belong to the Romanelli family, learning more about the production of extra virgin olive oil. You will taste those products before being transferred back to Rome for dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 10: Departure from Rome

Breakfast and check-out at the hotel.
