Sistine Chapel is perhaps one of the most famous museums not only in Rome, but in the world. Thanks to Michelangelo’s first major commissioned painting work of the Biblical historical scenes on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. It still remains as one of the most important paintings in the world with famous scenes such as the Creation of Adam, the Great Flood and the Garden of Eden. Each Sistine Chapel walls are covered with frescoes painted by famous Italian Renaissance painters such as Sandro Boticelli, Pietro Perugino, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Roselli. At the Altar Wall, is Michelangelo’s massive fresco of the Last Judgment depicting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ on the Day of Judgment.
The Vatican Raphael Rooms are a series of papal chambers that are frescoed by Raphael. One of the famous frescoes is the painting of the School of Athens depicting the Greek philosopher Euclid and Plato. Hidden at the right lower corner is Raphael, himself. Borgia Apartments were once the chambers of the infamous Spanish Pope Alexander VI with frescoes painted by Pinturicchio. We will then visit the Pio Clementino Museum, that houses Renaissance art and antiquities of Greek and Roman Sculptures. The octagonal Courtyard houses the first century Laocoon, an iconic marble statue depicting the story of the Trojan War.
