Explore a whole day from Rome touring through the Chianti hills and visit the cities of San Gimignano and Siena. San Gimignano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also known as 'the city of the hundred towers.' It has been made to retain its original design and feature, also its charm.
The tour will start in Rome, with the pick-up at the hotel you specified at the moment of booking (if it si located in the center of Rome). You will comfortably travel by minivan. The first stop will be San Gimignano, where you will get the rare opportunity to explore the pre-historic streets and also visit the old center in the city. By strolling around the tiny streets of the centre builit out of grey stone, you will feel like travelling through time, picturing yourself in a beautiful Medieval court. The centre is also rich in small picturesque shops where you will have the chance to buy souvenirs and local food and wine products.
Tuscany is well known for its rich wine production, mostly of the red wine of the Chianti area. In San Gimignano you will exceptionally find a white wine, the "Vernaccia of San Gimignano". After visiting the city centre, it will be time to stop and taste fantastic wines and local products available at a local wine cellar. There will be about ten different types of wines and oil: you will also visit the estate and get to learn about making wines and how the grapes are processed to make great tasting wines. Finally you will have a quick lunch with Tuscan typical products at the restaurant of the estate.
The day trip will then continue to the beautiful city of Siena. You will have enough time to visit the major areas in Siena in the city center, such as the 'Piazza del Campo' which is known globally for their famous Palio; a race with a house around the square twice using a medieval setting during summer. Siena is known not just for its wine but also for its sweet and savory goods like the 'Panpepato,' 'Panforte,' 'Ricciarelli' and so on. You also get the opportunity to taste amazing Italian coffee and also a delicious sweet product from the market in Siena. At the end of the day you will leave Siena going back to Rome and dropped off to your centally located Hotel.
