Guided trip to the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere District in Rome

Come and join us for this amazing walking tour of Trastevere and the Jewish Ghetto, two of the most charming and pleasant areas of Rome.

Discover Trastevere, the most pictoresque area of Rome

The area of Trastevere offers a pleasant diversion from the tourist crowded historic center of Rome. The neighborhood is largely residential, characterized by narrow, cobble stone streets, with the structures from the Middle Ages and a large multiethnic student population from the university.
During this three hour exploration of Trastevere, you will find a fine selection of restaurants, bars and cafes that are frequented by locals. We will be walking and admiring the monuments and atmosphere of this authentic area of Rome.

Explore the Jewish Ghetto of Rome, a fascinating area in the centre of the city

Trastevere literally means beyond the Tiber, the river that runs through Rome and was originally connected to the main city by a small wooden bridge.
The immigrants, mainly Jews and Syrians, arrived from the East and settled in the area. The center of the public life of the neighborhood is Piazza di Santa Maria, where you will find the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the oldest and most visited churches in the city of Rome.

A walking tour to discover hidden areas of Rome

The Rome walking tour also includes a visit to the Rome’s Jewish Ghetto, located near the Tiber River, in an area surrounded by Via del Portico d'Ottavia, by the Lungotevere de Cenci, near Via del Progresso and by Via of Santa Maria del Pianto. In Italian, the Ghetto was called Serraglio degli Ebrei, which means the fence of the Jews.
The Rome’s Jewish Ghetto, which today is a charming area, and where there is the Rome's Synagogue, is an area renowned for its restaurants and some of the best food stores in the whole city.

3 hour Jewish Ghetto and Trastavere walking tour

I did a guided tour with Inger of the old Jewish Ghetto area and Trastavere. It was fantastic! She is a wonderful and enthusiastic guide and kept me captivated for the whole tour. She answered questions really well and explained everything in so much detail. This is a fantastic tour as you see parts of Rome a little bit of the tourist trail and learn things that you wouldn't otherwise have any idea about. If you have time to spare in Rome definitely book this tour!

Definitely Doing This Again!

We had three days in Rome and decided to book a walking tour of Trastevere and the Jewish Ghetto. Our walking tour through the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere was unforgettable. A very big thank you to Inger who made history come alive for us - a very emotional and informative tour. We particularly enjoyed observing Vespers at the Church of Santa Cecilia. The tour commenced at dusk and lasted about 2.5 hours. We loved the look of that area of Rome at night.

Four Tours - Loved them all

We took the ancient Rome, Jewish ghetto & Trastevere, Appian Way/Catacombs & Vatican tours. We loved them all. Valentina, an archeologist who did the ancient Rome tour, merits additional praise. It was just the two of us with her. I'm a history teacher and when she saw how genuinely interested we were and all the questions we asked she just ran with it! She went way over the time allotted for the tour because she seemed to be enjoying herself talking about this stuff too! A true passion for her subject. We actually had to force a tip on her because she insisted she had so much fun. I've looked at some of the other reviews, so I guess it really depends on the guide you have and how big your group is. I suppose we were lucky.
