Ancient traditions, hilltop villages with picturesque murales and delicious local wine... Those are the main ingredients of this day trip from Cagliari that will take to Barbagia, the wildest part of Sardinia, with the visit of two of the most traditional villages in the heart of the island.
Sardinia is well-known for its sunny coasts and its white and sandy beaches, but there are stunning places to discover in the inner part of Sardinia, such as Orgosolo & Mamoiada, two of the most popular and characteristic villages in the inner mountain region of Sardinia, known as Barbagia.
You will depart directly from your hotel in Cagliari, or any other address you prefer within the city, travelling aboard a comfortable mini-bus, passing across beautiful landscapes of unspoiled nature.
The first stop of this excursion will be Mamoiada, in the heart of Barbagia, where you will discover the traditional Sardinia masks, which have been used since ancient time for the Sardinian Carnival, one of the most representative among the traditions of this island.
Mamoiada is a lovely and tranquil small town of 2600 inhabitants, located to the north of Mount Gennargentu. Here we will visit the multimedia museums of the masks and local traditions, but as you explore the narrow alleys of the old town you will also visit a handicraft shop where you will assist at the various stages of the traditional Mamuthones mask making.
Later, we will take you to a traditional wine cellar for a guided tour and a wine tasting with a professional guide, expert in wines. The wine tasting, which includes the Cannonau red wine, will be followed by a rich lunch with local genuine food.
In the late afternoon we will take you for a guided tour of the symbolic-village of Orgosolo where you will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful and very original "Murales": a sort of street art graffiti, where local artists paint the walls of the town with stories of its past and with tales reproducing the main events of Sardinia and Italy’s history.
After the guided tour, we will drive you back to Cagliari aboard our comfortable mini-bus.
