The Teatro La Fenice (The "Phoenix Theatre") is one of the greatest theatres in the world. Although it has a relatively short history, dating back to the late 18th century, the Teatro La Fenice has become one of the icons of Venice because of the extraordinary events that have taken place in it.
Opened in 1792, the Teatro della Fenice was further embellished in the Napoleonic era, before being destroyed by fire in 1836; rebuilt in the following years, a fire struck again in 1996 destroying the building for the second time, and only in 2003 it was finally reopened to the public.
Like the Phoenix, the mythological bird from which it takes its name, the building has always been able to be reborn from its own ashes, becoming a true symbol of the characteristic tenacity of Venice.
