Don Pedro Giron, viceroy of Naples, commissioned this building in 1586 for using it as a stable but today it houses the Archaeological Museum. At the end of the 18th century it was converted into a museum that contained the archaeological collections coming from Herculaneum, Pompeii and Stabia.
The Archaeological Museum boasts the richest and most important collection of artworks and artifacts of archaeological interest throughout Italy. Visiting the rooms of the museum, you can admire more than three thousand valuables items, dating from prehistory to late antiquity, among which the biggest marble statue in the world.
