Things to know about Parma

Parma, former ducal capital, is a beautiful city not far from Bologna, renowned not only for the amount of theaters, museums and important archaeological and architectural heritage, but also because of its famous XI century University.

The main attractions in the city are located near the beautiful Piazza Duomo: among them stands the Basilica of Santa Maria Steccata, the impressive Monastery of St. Paul and the small Baroque church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

The most representative city's buildings were built in the centuries during which Parma was the capital of the Duchy. Outstanding among them is the most important monumental complex of the Palazzo della Pilotta, built for the Farnese dukes in 1580, with the purpose of becoming the office of the Court and the State.

But Parma is also famous for the excellent local cuisine, particularly for the production of cheeses and hams.
