Located on the route of the Via Francigena, the charming town of San Gimignano is famous for a very unique feature of its historical centre: the presence of several towers that dominate the surrounding landscape and create a characteristic skyline that can be admired even from a distance.
Those 14 surviving towers, although in Medieval Times they were 72, have earned the town the nickname of the "Manhattan of Tuscany".
San Gimignano also has a great culinary tradition, associated with local products such as wine, olive oil and saffron. Around the town there is the natural archaeological park of Castelvecchio, where you can admire the remains of a mediaeval fortress hidden in the forest.
